Well, it’s week 3 of school and so far so good…or should I say great! We’re really pleased with the G&T program at P.S. 33 Chelsea Prep and the other parents of NYC G&T students are very involved with their children’s education well. We’ve noticed a BIG difference in just the few short weeks since our child started attending the NYC gifted and talented program for kindergarten. Over the weekend our child just started copying words and writing them down on a piece of paper, with no prompting from us. Overall, it’s amazing how much of a difference we can see already and we’re extremely pleased with the G&T program so far. The teacher is able to encourage the students to do their best without pushing them  too hard. I appreciate the efforts so far and we have seen the rewards.

We spoke to our neighbor who has a son in the general ed. kindergarten (non-G&T) for which we are zoned. She mentioned that she can tell our child is learning much more than her son in kindergarten so far.  It’s still a bit too early to tell since we’re only 3 weeks into the school year but I thought her comment was interesting nonetheless.

I found an article from the NY Times from August, 2009 which I found very interesting. It’s titled “Smart Child Left Behind“.

On another note, I have another blog of great items for your gifted and talented child. Check it out.

If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me at skipper646@gmail.com. Thanks! Michael M.
