Well, we had a parents/teacher conference this week at PS 33 G&T kindergarten class for our child. Overall, the conference went well but it was somewhat short – 10 minutes. This was due to the amount of time the teacher could allocate to all the parents with children in the classroom. We receive periodic updates from our child’s teacher so this wasn’t the first time discussing performance, etc. We didn’t expect to get a report card during the session so we were a bit surprised.  I thought it was good they did hand out report cards to parents of gifted and talented students. Below is a copy of the report card (sorry for the poor quality!) we received for our child. Please keep in mind I whited out the grades for obvious reasons. This will give you an idea of what children are evaluated on for the NYC gifted and talented program at the kindergarten level.  I was quite impressed with the level of detail on the report card considering it’s for a kindergartner. I’m not sure if all the schools use this same report card or not but I assume there would have to be consistency in these types of documents across the NYC school districts.

I have to admit, it was refreshing to not talk about OLSAT testing with the teacher. Overall, we are still extremely pleased with the new gifted and talented program at PS 33 Chelsea Prep. They just started Chinese lessons this week and robotics class will begin in shortly. Our child continues to excel at a pace that has exceeded my expectations going into this program – and believe me, my expectations were extremely high going into all of this!

I also cross-post on Gothamschools.org. It’s a great site that contains information about the entire NYC school system.

On another note, if you’re interested in some great items for your child Brain Quest has a great selection that are great for both home and travel. The Brain Quest items also come highly recommended by tutoring experts for the NYC gifted and talented program for OLSAT 8 and ERB. Check the items out on Amazon:
